What We Do

Josh Schachter
What's Your Story? helps you tell your story.

We offer workshops to individuals and groups wanting to document their own or their community's stories.

We offer services in the documentary arts (writing, interviewing, photography) to help public and private institutions, foundations, and organizations document their stories for the public.

Our programs are ideal for:

  • artist-in-residence programs
  • community organizations
  • community development projects
  • conferences, educators & schools
  • governmental institutions
  • private & public foundations
  • museums & cultural institutions
  • neighborhood associations
  • nonprofit organizations & NGOs
  • youth organizations

How can we help your community?

Your neighborhood has a unique and important history. You want young people to learn about their community and culture. You want to help shape the future of your neighborhood by sharing the issues and places that are important to you. How do you do it? Our interactive workshops in writing, interviewing, and photography teach you how to identify, document, and present your own and others' stories. By sharing local and personal stories you can:

  • uncover community issues, assets, and future needs.
  • explore and nurture your creativity.
  • build pride in your community.
  • connect youth, adults, and elders.
  • celebrate local history, culture, and geography.
  • galvanize community discussions and forums.

How can we help your organization?

Your organization does important work. How do you show that to your members, your funders, and the public? Facts and figures are important, but people will more likely remember stories about your history, programs, and triumphs. By documenting those stories in words and images we can help you create accessible and compelling products (publications, exhibits, etc.) to:

  • increase awareness about issues and mobilize action.
  • recruit and retain volunteers.
  • raise the profile of your organization.
  • evaluate your activities.
  • attract and secure more funding.
  • build your membership.
  • heighten staff morale and creativity.
What's Your Story? workshops and services can be designed to fit your needs and budget.
